Detoxification

Detoxification is typically the first step in different drug treatment programs. This treatment involves eliminating the substance from the body and limiting the symptoms of withdrawal. Research shows that in 80 percent of drug addiction cases, addiction treatment centers will prescribe medications to lessen the symptoms and if a person  is addicted to more than one drug, they will be given multiple medications for each drug they are addicted to.

Detoxification can be performed in a number of settings, and while many resources recommend at-home detox, it may not be the best and safest option for you. In fact, many have reported that it can be really dangerous and deadly even. Below are the different types of detoxification methods you can review and assess to find the best treatment for your needs.

Outpatient Medical Detoxification

Before undergoing detoxification, your clinician will conduct an evaluation to identify the levels of risks you might experience during the withdrawal process. If you are assessed to be at low risk, your physician might advise you to undergo the outpatient detox program. Unlike the inpatient and intensive drug treatment programs, outpatient detox can be done by regular visits to the doctor’s clinic or treatment center. In some programs, the treatment center may offer house visits to perform the treatment in the comfort of your home to track your progress. During the whole process, your vital signs, comfort level, and complaints will be regularly checked and attended to, and the detoxification treatment will be specifically tailored to address you addiction problems and recovery goals.

At-Home Natural Detox

Trying out natural detox at home can be a real challenge. However, if you are only experiencing withdrawal symptoms which are not really dangerous and are not causing some serious complications, doing the detox at home might be an advantageous option for you. With the support of your family and friends, you might successfully eliminate the drug from your system using natural medication at home. After all, the best setting you can have during treatment is somewhere with the presence of the people who truly care for you.

Always remember that home detox is not always advisable for all situations and not always effective for certain type of drugs. If you are experiencing dangerous symptoms during withdrawal, opting for the at-home detox might not be worth trying. Always consult a registered and knowledgeable physician before trying out this type of addiction treatment method.
